Basilica de Candelaria

The Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria in Tenerife has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest for its artistic and historical importance. In 1390, two Guanche shepherds found a wooden carving of the Virgin in a cave that they used as a shelter during a storm. “La Morenita” or Virgen de la Candelaria became the Patron Saint of the Canary Islands.
